Tank Attach Brackets

April was a busy month, but unfortunately it was mostly non-build activities. Between leaving one job, getting my Part 135 checkride in the C414 completed, and getting a new job, it left very little energy for RV-8 stuff. That being said, I was able to get over the hump on a blocking task that had me avoiding the hangar. The Tank Attach brackets. If you recall from previous posts, I had attempted to create the brackets a while ago, and messed up enough that I needed to get new material. Between re-cuts, torches, mallets, etc, it took a little over 10 hours to get both brackets fabricated and attached. After the fuel line fabrication is complete, I can get to finalizing the wing root fabrication, and then the wings come back off until final assembly! Below are some pictures from the month, with color commentary on all the hurdles I ran into.

A new job in May will probably delay some of the progress, but I’ve got a couple weeks off until then, and hoping to get done with the Wing/Fuselage attachment activities. Until then…. Happy Building!

  1. Congratulations on your new job. Nice progress on the built…. in life you always find some task that you really do not want to do (I.e. rebuilding bracket.) but you powered through like a champ. Good job. Congrats on the part 135. Nice.
